Belgian 'escape artist' sentenced to 4 ½ years 23/04/2008 00:00

The Belgian convict robbed a motorcycle shop in The Netherlands three days after escaping a Belgian jail.

THE HAGUE - A court in The Hague has sentenced Belgian Nordin Benallal to four-and-a-half years in jail for robbing a motorcycle shop together with an accomplice, who was sentenced to three-and-a-half years.

Three days before the robbery, the two had escaped from a Belgian jail. It was the fourth time that Benallal had escaped from prison.

Benallal is serving consecutive sentences in Belgium of 12 years - for shooting at two police officers - and of 27 years, for a series of violent robberies before he escaped.
