The wooden globes, which were part of the royal family of Liechtenstein's private collection, were sold at the auction at Christie’s in Amsterdam.

AMSTERDAM - A pair of wooden globes has been sold for EUR 800,000 at auction at Christie's in Amsterdam.

The globes were part of the royal family of Liechtenstein's private collection. The auction house says this is the largest sum ever paid for a work of art in the Netherlands, with the exception of paintings.

The two globes, one of the sky, the other of the earth, were made in the 17th century by cartographer Willem Janszoon Blaeu. They were bought for a private collection in Europe.
