On October 1, 2010, Puerto Rican birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010 will become invalid, and will no longer be acceptable for Form I-9 employment eligibility verification purposes, according to new guidance from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services USCIS. These certificates will likewise become invalid for use as supporting documents in immigration applications and petitions beginning October 1.
