RIJSWIJK – Almost half (44 percent) of senior managers regularly work from home wearing pyjamas and are therefore not too keen on taking part in video conferencing sessions. Of the junior managers only 9 percent said to have adopted this practice. This emerges from a survey conducted by Avaya, a supplier of communication networks and services for the business market.

It also appeared that 17 percent of the top managers take a nap more often during conference calls than the average employee of whom only 5 percent take a nap. The survey was carried out among 2,200 managers in the US, the UK and Australia.

More than half of the respondents have already taken part in a conference call dressed only in a bathrobe, or even less than that. Top level management also seem to adopt a more relaxed style of working and use smart phones (multifunctional phones) more often. Users of smart phones react more quickly and communicate more often than users of traditional mobile phones. The chance that users of smart phones will answer their phones while on the toilet is twice as great compared to users of ordinary cell phones.

Sixty percent of smart phone users also admitted that they send e-mails under the table during meetings. This group also checks their e-mails and text messages twice as often during private functions, such as weddings and funerals, as those who don’t have a smart phone.
