Effective June 1, 2010, National Insurance contributions in the Bahamas will increase by 1 percent. National Insurance is a social security program to which all individuals employed in the Bahamas are required by law to contribute. The 1-percent increase will be shared equally by the employer and the employee across all levels of contributions with the top rate increasing from 8.8 percent to 9.8 percent of insurable earnings.
