- My Partner and I are in a UK Civil Partnership and can therefore not enter into a PACS. How can we avoid the inheritance tax (on property and savings) imposed on us as individuals if one of us dies? Dear Peter, Thanks for your mail. For a PACS in France, yes there are similar provisions to a husband wife situation for inheritance tax, ie prefential rates of tax, and rights in relation to inheritence. I would of course need more information to give you advice specific to your circumastances. I will also check that the provisions of legislation between France and the UK provide for recognition of a UK civil partnership without the need for you to enter into a PACS in France as well. If you need to come back to me, and or would like me to provide you planning services for your potential move to France, please do not hesitate to come back to me, Cordialement Joanna Reintjes FCCA CTA International Client Manager Asked by : Peter Jacques Answered by : Tax Expert Joanna Reintjes
