In another swine flu outbreak 33 french students participating in an exchange programme in New York have been linked to the virus.

NEW YORK – Thirty-three French students have been linked to a swine-flu-hit New York school where 28 people were found to have the virus, a French diplomat told AFP.

The teenage students had been at the St Francis school in Queens as part of an exchange programme, French Consul Guy Yelda said.

Two of them showed flu-like symptoms and are being treated, although they are now thought to be out of danger.

"(The students) are aged 16 to 18 years old. They arrived on 23 April accompanied by three teachers," Yelda said.

At the end of last week "two children and a teacher presented flu-like symptoms. As a preventative measure they have been prescribed Tamiflu. None of them have been hospitalised and they no long have symptoms," the diplomat said.

The school has been closed since Friday as health teams work to disinfect the building.
