Israel asks France to extract diplomats in Ivory Coast

Israel asked French troops stationed in Ivory Coast's commercial capital Abidjan to extract its diplomats from the conflict-torn city, French Defence Minister Alain Juppe said on Thursday.
The request for France's Licorne (Unicorn) force to intervene came after its troops overnight rescued Japan's ambassador after he became caught up in fighting between forces loyal to the country's two rival presidents.
"We've received several requests," Juppe told the Senate's foreign affairs and defence committee.
"I just had the Israeli foreign minister (Avigdor Lieberman) on the phone a few moments ago asking for Licorne's help to extract his diplomats."
