Yemen leader's departure 'unavoidable': France
French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said Monday that Yemen's embattled President Ali Abdullah Saleh was facing an "unavoidable" exit from power.
"Today we must help those who want to advance human rights and build democracy. This is true for all countries. We tell Yemen that the situation is deteriorating," Juppe said.
"The regime must take that into account. It appears today that the departure of President Saleh is unavoidable," he told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
Juppe spoke after several top Yemeni generals pledged allegiance to the "revolution" sweeping the country since January 27
Also five ambassadors from Yemen posted in Europe wrote to Saleh asking him to resign.
