SENLIS - A 23-year-old student died Sunday shortly after being discovered stabbed on a suburban metro train outside Paris, justice officials said.

The woman was discovered with stab wounds on her face and chest at about 11:50 am by two commuters who mounted the train at its terminus, in the Paris suburb of Creil.

She died shortly after emergency services arrived.

A man, who apparently travelled on the same RER metro car as the victim, was discovered with injuries a few stops before Creil, officials said.

Already known to law-and-order officials for a sexual attack committed 10 years ago, he is considered a suspect in the student's knifing, they said.

He was placed under surveillance at a suburban hospital where he was expected to be operated on during the night.
