PARIS, May 19 (AFP) - The wife of an Iranian professor found dead in his Paris apartment earlier this week was taken into police custody on suspicion of complicity, police said Thursday.

The person responsible for the death of 58-year-old Kasra Vafadari, who taught at a Paris university, was still believed to be at large, police said.

Vafadari - who was separated from his wife, but not yet divorced - was found dead on Tuesday, with stab wounds to his throat, by the caretaker of his apartment building.

A long-time resident of France, the Iranian professor was an active member of the Zoroastrian community in Iran. Zoroastrianism is the ancient religion of Persia, founded by the prophet Zarathushtra.

Investigators have ruled out a political motive, saying the killing was likely a personal affair.
