Romania's competition watchdog on Tuesday fined giant mobile phone operators Orange and Vodafone a total of 63 million euros ($85 million) for abusing their dominant position, news agency Mediafax reported.

"Orange has been fined around 34 million euros and Vodafone more than 28 million euros or about three percent of their revenues (in Romania) in 2010", the president of the competition watchdog Bogdan Chiritoiu said, according to Mediafax.

The French and British operators can contest the fine in court.
