Vivendi hits high note in first half results

PARIS, Sept 7, 2006 (AFP) - French media group Vivendi Universal reported on Thursday a 48-percent jump in net profit for the first half of 2006 and confirmed its forecast of at least 16-percent growth for the full year.

PARIS, Sept 7, 2006 (AFP) - French media group Vivendi Universal reported on Thursday a 48-percent jump in net profit for the first half of 2006 and confirmed its forecast of at least 16-percent growth for the full year.

Vivendi said net earnings were EUR 1.8 billion in the first six months of the year, up 48.1 percent on the same period in 2005.

It confirmed adjusted net profit for the full year 2006 was expected to reach EUR 2.6 billion.

Adjusted core earnings (earnings before interest, tax and amortisation, or EBITA) rose to EUR 2.3 billion in the first half from 2.1 billion in the first half of 2005.

Adjusted operating profits rose 11.1 percent over the period — 10.3 percent on a like-for-like basis — to reach 2.3 billion. The group had posted an operating profit of 2.1 billion in the first half of 2005.
