Vivendi Q1 net profits up 22.8 percent

PARIS, May 16, 2007 (AFP) - French media and telecommunications giant Vivendi on Tuesday reported an adjusted first-quarter net profit of 771 million euros (one billion dollars), up 22.8 percent on the first quarter of 2006 and well ahead of analysts' estimates.

PARIS, May 16, 2007 (AFP) - French media and telecommunications giant Vivendi on Tuesday reported an adjusted first-quarter net profit of 771 million euros (one billion dollars), up 22.8 percent on the first quarter of 2006 and well ahead of analysts' estimates.

Sales rose 5.3 percent to 5.02 billion euros, corresponding to a 7.0 percent increase at constant exchange rates.

The group said its profits had been lifted by good performances from its games, pay-TV and Maroc Telecom businesses, as well as favourable exceptional events.

It reported an adjusted operating profit of 1.27 billion euros up 21.7 percent on the year-earlier figure of 1.047 billion.
