Venezuela arrests Frenchman wanted for kidnapping
Venezuelan police on Thursday said they arrested a French citizen in his country for crimes that include kidnapping and robbery.
Acting on an international arrest warrant issued in July 2010, police said in a statement that they arrested French national Michel Martin Laborde Elizalde, 50.
Laborde was arrested in the coastal town of Chichiriviche, in the northwestern state of Falcon, when he was unable to produce any identification document during a routine police check.
Laborde is wanted in France "for the crimes of kidnapping, robbery, extortion, and illegal possession of rifles," the statement read.
Police said the suspect was turned over to immigration authorities for his deportation.
