LYON, France, Sept 11 (AFP) - Hundreds of people stripped off here Sunday to pose naked for US photographer Spencer Tunick, who has made a name for himself by organizing mass nude photo shoots around the world.

Men and women of all ages turned up in the early hours to obey Tunick's orders as he snapped them in various positions in this eastern French city's river port.

"I really wanted to do this, just for the pleasure of running naked on the grass in the middle of Lyon, this city that is supposed to be so bourgeois and so uptight," said one young man.

The photographer has already organized similar events in Barcelona, Helsinki, Lisbon, Santiago, New York and Mexico City.

Models receive no payment, but receive a copy of his shots.

It is believed that since 1992, Tunick has persuaded at least 40,000 people to undress and pose in front of his camera lens.

His latest photos were due to be shown in November as part of a contemporary art exhibition in Lyon.
