US singer Jarreau moves to Marseille hospital
US singer Al Jarreau was in a stable condition Saturday after being transferred to a larger hospital in Marseille in southern France, health officials said.
The Grammy-winning performer, 70, was hospitalised on Thursday in the Alpine town of Gap with an unduly rapid heart beat.
He was moved from Gap by helicopter on Saturday to Marseille at his own request and was in a "stable condition" in hospital there, the director of Gap hospital said in a statement.
Jarreau thanked the staff at Gap for "saving his life", a health official said.
Jarreau -- whose jazz, pop and soul songs have won him seven Grammy awards -- was about to begin a festival concert late Thursday at Barcelonette in the French Alps when he was taken ill.
He was in a critical condition when he arrived at the intensive care unit in Gap but his condition later stabilised.
