Tehran - US, French, Russian and Iranian officials are to meet in Vienna on 19 October for talks on the possible transfer of Iranian uranium for enrichment abroad, the UN nuclear watchdog head announced Sunday.

"We will have a meeting to discuss the technical details and hopefully we will hammer out an agreement as early as possible," Mohamed ElBaradei told reporters in Tehran.

"We will have a meeting on 19 October with the participation of the United States, Russia, France, and of course the agency will act as a convener of the meeting," he said.

ElBaradei said the meeting would be held in Vienna where the International Atomic Energy Agency is based.

Iran has been requesting the IAEA's cooperation in securing fuel for a research reactor in Tehran, he said.

"I have been in consultation with a number of suppliers. I was pleased to see that there is a positive response ... That reactor is ... to produce medical isotopes for cancer patients," he said.

"To this end we proposed that Iran provides its LEU (low enriched fuel). It would be enriched, it would be entered into fuel fabrication and then brought back to Iran in its research facility."
