PARIS, Nov 18 (AFP) - The US Internet company Travelocity announced Thursday its entry into France's online travel agency market with the launch of a site that will soon also be available in Italy and Spain.

The site, Odysia, will be operational from Friday, the head of Travelocity France, Jan Oetjen, told a media conference in Paris.

It aims to compete against the more established players already active in France's Internet vacation-booking market, namely Opodo (controlled by European reservations group Amadeus), a joint venture between the state rail company SNCF and US rival Expedia, and Britain's Lastminute.com.

Oetjen refused to divulge the total investment or projected revenues for Odysia but said the site would be available in Spain and Italy within two years.

The company was to also open 11 walk-in travel agencies in France under the Odysia name, he said.

Travelocity is a major player in the United States, where it claims to have 44 million clients, and is already operational under that name in Britain and Germany.
