Train crash kills three in northern France
A train crashed into a car in northern France on Monday, killing three passengers, rescuers said.
The crash happened as thick snow and ice caused severe disruption in the region, but emergency workers were unable to confirm for the moment whether the bad weather caused the accident.
All three people in the car were killed when the train hit it at a level crossing near Maubeuge, close to the Belgian border, an emergency services official told AFP. No one in the train was reported hurt.
"The train was moving at 140 kilometres an hour (87 miles an hour) and the car was pushed along for 300 metres," about 330 yards, the official said.
