PARIS, Nov 13, 2006 (AFP) - The highest office building in France, the Montparnasse Tower, was evacuated Monday after an anonymous caller made a bomb threat, police said.

Some 3,000 people were ordered out of the 59-storey building after the threat was received around 4:30pm, police said.

Police declared the building safe after an extensive search found no sign of a bomb.

"We had been informed by the police that an anonymous telephone call from a booth in the 15th district of Paris had been received at the local police station saying that a bomb was going to explode," said François Chabas, of the building's management.

He said a security cordon was quickly established around the building and the evacuation was complete in 45 minutes.

Explosives experts and sniffer dogs were involved in the search.
