PARIS - Three people died in a fire that broke out in an apartment building in Paris early Thursday, police said.
Two of the victims were women, one of them pregnant. The third fatality was a 10-year-old girl.
Nine people including a firefighter were injured when the fire spread from a stairwell with residents trying to flee the scene in panic. Ten others were rescued.
About 100 people in the five-storey building and an adjacent hotel were evacuated. The two are located in a narrow pedestrian passageway in the east of the French capital. The area has a large Kurdish community.
Some 150 firefighters at the scene managed to put out the blaze shortly after 5:00 am (0400 GMT).
