Three French nationals killed in Italy plane crash: report

A small plane crashed into a hillside in thick fog in northwest Italy on Thursday on its way from Cannes to Venice, killing the three French nationals board, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

The Cirrus SR 20 monoplane fell close to a village in the Valbromida region not far from the port city of Savona.

Italy's civil aviation authorities and local prosecutors have launched parallel investigations into the crash.

Mountain rescue, police and firemen were on the scene at an altitude of around 700 metres, the report said, adding that a local boy had alerted police after hearing a loud engine roar followed by an explosion.

The victims were two men aged 63 and 48 and a 62-year-old woman.
