PARIS, March 11, 2007 (AFP) - Three British women died after a fierce fire gutted a Paris apartment over the weekend, rescue services said Sunday.

The blaze at a fifth-storey flat at Rue des Innocents in the centre of the city broke out late Friday with rescue services recovering the bodies of two tourists the following morning.

The corpse of a third British national was pulled out of the same apartment on Sunday, a rescue service spokesman said.

The identities of the three victims have not been released.

Police said that up to 32 residents of the apartment block had been evacuated during the weekend, with 20 being relocated to a nearby hotel.
