'The Dead Girl' wins Deauville gong

DEAUVILLE, France, Sept 9, 2007 (AFP) - "The Dead Girl," a film by Karen Moncrieff, won the Grand Prize at the Deauville Film Festival of American cinema here Sunday.

DEAUVILLE, France, Sept 9, 2007 (AFP) - "The Dead Girl," a film by Karen Moncrieff, won the Grand Prize at the Deauville Film Festival of American cinema here Sunday.

Eleven independent productions were competing for the top award that was last year given to "Little Miss Sunshine" by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

Also in the running was "Broken English" by director Zoe Casavetes, "Factory Girl" by George Ickenlooper, "Waitress" by Adrienne Shelly and "For Your Consideration" by Christopher Guest.

Among the stars attending the 33rd annual edition of the festival at the French beach resort were Michael Douglas, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
