PARIS, May 12 (AFP) - French electronics group Thales posted a 3.5 percent rise in first-quarter revenue to EUR 2 billion (USD 2.5 billion), due largely to a surge in sales in its naval division.

Among its various operations, naval activities posted a 27 percent sales growth to EUR 340 million, thanks to exports such as submarine and frigate orders in Asia and in Europe with the Franco-Italian Horizon frigates programme, the company said in a statement.

The group's services division, which includes training and equipment simulators, also posted strong growth, up 15 percent from a year earlier.

All other divisions reported sales declines in the quarter.

The group said fluctuations in exchange rates had a negative impact on first quarter sales in the amount of EUR 15 million.
