PARIS, Aug 27 (AFP) - Thai Airways has placed an order with Airbus for eight new aircraft, including six A380 super-jumbos, the European airplanes maker said Friday.

In addition to the 555-seat A380s, which are scheduled for delivery in 2008-2009,Thai Airways was also ordering one A340-500 and one A340-600 long-range aircraft to be delivered in 2007 and 2008 respectively.

Financial terms of the order were not disclosed.

Airbus said that with this order, it has now received 139 firm orders for its A380 airplane, from 13 clients.

Thai Airways opted in July to buy the Airbus aircraft as part of a programme worth USD 2.3 billion to build up its fleet with 14 new airplanes.

At the time, the airline had not decided whether the six eight airplanes would be ordered from Airbus or its archrival Boeing of the United States.

It said that the A380 super-jumbos would be used on its European routes and that the smaller aircraft would be used on US and Australian routes.
