PARIS, April 9 (AFP) - A Swiss lottery player was celebrating Saturday after winning a record jackpot of more than EUR 64 million (USD 83 million) in the EuroMillions draw, the French national lottery agency said.

The player, who was not identified, was the only one front-rank winner on Friday and scooped EUR 64,040,749, smashing the previous record of EUR 43,756,502 won by a Portuguese in November.

The EuroMillions lottery was launched in February last year by French, Spanish and British operators la Francaise des Jeux, Loterias y Apuestas del Estado and Camelot. In October they were joined by lotteries in Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and two in Switzerland, and the draw now attracts some two million punters every week.
