PARIS, May 9, 2007 (AFP) - Students at one of the main campuses of Paris university voted to go on strike Wednesday in protest against president-elect Nicolas Sarkozy.

Some 800 students meeting in a general assembly agreed to blockade the Tolbiac site in the south of the French capital, in order to fight Sarkozy's "liberal, authoritarian and racist policies."

Sarkozy was elected on Sunday over socialist Segolene Royal and takes office in a week.

Some 10,000 students work every day at the Tolbiac campus, where there is a strong tradition of left-wing militancy.
