Strauss-Kahn 'served the world': Sweden's Bildt
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who resigned Thursday as head of the IMF amid sexual assault charges, was a great asset to the world during the global financial crisis, according to Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.
"It should be said that DSK served the world with great distinction during a most critical period," Bildt said on his official Twitter account, stressing that finding the right "successor will be important."
The International Monetary Fund announced early Thursday that Strauss-Kahn, who has been jailed in New York on suspicion he sexually assaulted and attempted to rape a Manhattan hotel chambermaid, had resigned.
In a separate letter, the exiting IMF chief said he was stepping down because he wanted "to protect this institution which I have served with honor and devotion," and needed "to devote all my strength, all my time, and all my energy to proving my innocence."
