Strauss-Kahn can calmly prepare defence: French Socialists
The release of Dominique Strauss-Kahn on bail would allow the former IMF chief "to prepare his defence calmly and make his version of events known," the French Socialist Party said Thursday.
"We note with satisfaction the granting of bail, giving him the opportunity to calmly prepare his defence," party spokesman Benoit Hamon told AFP.
"This is going to allow him to make known his version (of events) and defend himself in a more peaceful environment than at Rikers Island (prison)," he said, adding that confirmation of the charges "is not really a surprise."
Strauss-Kahn was granted bail in New York Thursday after agreeing to post $1 million cash, submit to constant surveillance under house arrest and wear an ankle monitoring bracelet as he awaits trial on sexual assault charges.
