South Korean film wins top prize at Deauville Asian cinema festival

South Korean film "With a girl of black soil" directed by Soo-il Jeon won the Golden Lotus for best film Sunday.

   DEAUVILLE, France, March 17, 2008 - South Korean film "With a girl of
black soil" directed by Soo-il Jeon won the Golden Lotus for best film Sunday
at the 10th Deauville Festival of Asian Film, the organisers announced.
   The film tells the story of Young-lim, a nine-year-old girl who lives with
her father and her mentally handicapped brother in a little mining village
that is to be destroyed.
   The jury prize was awarded equally to Thai movie "Wonderful Town" by Aditya
Assart and Malaysian film "Flower in the Pocket" by Seng Tat Liew.
   The "Action Asia" lotus was awarded to "Assembly" by Chinese director
Xiaogang Feng.
   During the festival, held March 12-16, homages were paid to Japan, People's
China and Korea.
