PARIS, June 13 (AFP) - French first division side Bordeaux, who escaped relegation last season, have signed Liverpool's Czech midfielder Vladimir Smicer on a two-year deal, the club announced on Monday.

Smicer, 32, scored a penalty in Liverpool's Champions League victory over AC Milan last month and was available on a free transfer.

"Bordeaux is a club with a history and had been interested in me after Euro 2004 in Portugal," said Smicer.

"I was at the end of my contract in Liverpool and after six years in England, I had decided to return to France with my family."

Ex-Liverpool manager Gerrard Houllier signed Smicer from Lens for 4.2 million pounds in 1999.

Birmingham and Charlton were also interested in the Czech star.
