Shares in Atos Origin leap on takeover talk

PARIS, March 15, 2007 (AFP) - Shares in computer services consultancy Atos Origin were suspended on Thursday after leaping 23.34 percent on rumours that the company might be the target of a takeover bid.

PARIS, March 15, 2007 (AFP) - Shares in computer services consultancy Atos Origin were suspended on Thursday after leaping 23.34 percent on rumours that the company might be the target of a takeover bid.

The price of the shares surged to 48.78 euros. The overall CAC 40 index of leading shares was showing a gain of 1.23 percent.

A broker here commented that "there are rumours of a bid for Atos Origin" by a leveraged buyout fund "but I can't say any more".

The Euronext stock market operator here then announced that trading in the shares had been suspended pending a statement.
