Serbia's secret services (BIA) said they have arrested seven people and seized arms and explosives believed to be destined for France, a statement said Friday.

In cooperation with the French security services, three more people were arrested in Paris, BIA said, adding that the action has "cut off an international arms trafficking ring," Tanjug news agency reported.

There was no information in the statement when the arrests were made.

"A large quantity of automatic weaponry was seized both in Serbia and in France," the statement said, without elaborating.

The seven arrested in Serbia were suspected of "being a part of the network smuggling arms," it said, adding that "further investigation is underway."
