PARIS, Oct 8 (AFP) - France announced it was stepping up security around embassies and other "sensitive sites" after Friday morning's bomb blast outside the Indonesian embassy which slightly injured 10 people.

"Protection of sensitive sites, notably diplomatic missions, will be reinforced," the interior ministry said.

Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin was earlier briefed by intelligence chiefs on the significance of the attack.

The bomb went off at around 5:00 am in the exclusive Passy neighbourhood of the French capital, where several embassies are based. It broke windows and damaged several cars but caused no serious destruction.

Villepin described the blast as a "criminal act" but the authorities were keeping an open mind about a possible terrorist link.
