Recife – Searchers off Brazil on Tuesday found another body from an Air France jet that went down in the Atlantic over two weeks ago, bringing the total recovered to 50, a Brazilian military spokesman said.

Air France flight AF 447 plunged into the ocean on 1 June as it was flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris with 228 people on board. The cause of the disaster was not known.

Navy spokesman Captain Giucemar Tabosa said the body recovered would be taken to shore for identification, as with the 49 others already picked up by a flotilla of Brazilian and French vessels.

The search zone covered an area of 19,000 square kilometers (7,720 square miles), he said.

From Wednesday, authorities were to evaluate every two days whether to continue the operation.
