NANTES, France, Jan 10, 2006 (AFP) - An international search effort is underway for a French family who have been missing at sea for the past two months, police said on Tuesday.

The couple and their three teenaged children, from the Nantes area in western France, set sail from the Mediterranean coast in early November aboard a 12-metre (26-foot) yacht.

A missing persons warrant was issued after Olivier Ferec's colleagues reported his absence from work, and has been circulated to ocean rescue centres in the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean.

Ferec, a civil servant, and his wife Ghislaine, who ran a lamb-rearing operation, are around 200,000 euros (240,000 dollars) in debt, according to police.
