POTSDAM, Germany, Aug 19 (AFP) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac are scheduled to meet on September 6 at Rheinsberg, a spokesperson for the German government said Friday.

The meeting in the eastern region of Brandenburg will continue the informal "Blaesheim" consultations -- begun in February 2001 in a town of the same name -- to build consensus on common issues facing the two Western European nations.

The two leaders are expected to be accompanied by their respective foreign affairs ministers, France's Philippe Douste-Blazy and Germany's Joschka Fischer.

The Chirac visit will likely be the last by a foreign head of state ahead of the German legislative elections scheduled for September 18.

Rheinsberg, a tourist center north of Berlin, is famous for its rococo palace where Prussian crown prince Frederick lived before becoming king of Prussia in 1740 as Frederick II.
