A former accountant to L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt claimed Tuesday that Nicolas Sarkozy's presidential campaign received 150,000 euros in cash, in allegations published on a news website.

Aides to Sarkozy told AFP that the claim was "totally false."

The woman, identified by the investigative website Mediapart as Claire T., said Eric Woerth, Sarkozy's labour minister who was his budget minister and treasurer of his UMP party at the time, received the donation in 2007.

She also said Sarkozy himself was a regular visitor at the Bettencourt family home, where he too allegedly received envelopes of cash when he was mayor of the town of Neuilly.
