French President Nicolas Sarkozy vowed Wednesday to push through his pension reforms despite protests that have brought millions of protestors on to the streets, a minister said.

Sarkozy told a cabinet meeting that it was his "duty to carry out this reform and it is essential that we carry it through right to the end," Families Minister Nadine Morano told reporters after the meeting.

On Tuesday nationwide strikes and protests, the fourth in just over a month, brought more than a million people into the streets to fight the reforms that would see the minimum retirement age go up from 60 to 62.
