MARIGNANE, France, Aug 11 (AFP) - French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy flew aboard a fire-fighting aircraft Thursday in a demonstration of its airworthiness after a crash of another of the planes earlier this month.

His 30-minute circuit on the Canadair plane signalled the resumption of flights of the water-bombing aircraft.

France's fleet of the planes was grounded following the August 1 crash of one of their number in Corsica that killed its pilot and co-pilot.

Sarkozy, who had news cameras in tow to record his flight, has blamed their deaths on the arsonists who set the forest fire the Canadair plane was called to battle.

"I will not forget that your colleagues were victims of murderers. We owe it to them to find those responsible," he told the pilots of his plane.

He said that 49 suspected arsonists have been arrested since June.
