Sarkozy congratulates Brazil's new president
French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Monday hailed the election victory of Brazil's new leader Dilma Rousseff and looked forward to working with the major emerging economy in the Group of 20.
"The president spoke on the telephone this afternoon with Dilma Rousseff to congratulate her warmly for her brilliant election," a statement from Sarkozy's office said.
Sarkozy "assured her of his personal determination and France's will to pursue with the future president of Brazil the deepening of all areas of the strategic partnership that binds our two countries."
Sarkozy met Rousseff in Paris when she was a presidential candidate and "looks forward to meeting her again during the next G20 summit in Seoul" this month, which she will attend with outgoing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Sarkozy said he hoped "to discuss responses to the great world challenges and to prepare the French presidency of the G20 in 2011."
