Sanofi-Aventis to cut 1,700 jobs in US
French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi-Aventis said Friday it would cut 1,700 jobs in the United States, or 13 percent of its US workforce, by mid-December.
Sanofi-Aventis, in the middle of a hostile 18.5-billion-dollar bid for US biotech firm Genzyme, said it was rationalising its pharmaceutical division as part of a wider group restructuring.
This restructuring will result in the loss of 1,700 jobs in the United States, it said.
Sanofi-Aventis employs some 13,000 people in the United States, with 6,900 employed there by the pharmaceutical division.
