Romania slams EU Schengen move as 'discrimination'
Romanian President Traian Basescu on Tuesday slammed as "discrimination" a decision by France and Germany to block Bulgaria and Romania from joining Europe's passport-free 25-nation Schengen travel area next year.
French Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux and German counterpart Thomas de Maiziere earlier told the European Commission in a letter that it was "premature" to let them enter Schengen in March 2011, said spokesman Michele Cercone.
"I believe that the Franco-German letter sent to the European Commission is an act of discrimination against Romania," Basescu told reporters.
