A total of 93 Roma are expected to arrive in Romania on Thursday on regular flights from France in line with a French clampdown on the minority, Romania's interior ministry said.

A first batch of 14 Roma are expected to arrive in Bucharest from Paris around 1130 GMT followed by a second group of 79 from Lyon expected around 1400 GMT at a different airport in the Romania capital, a ministry official told AFP.

French and Romanian authorities initially said 73 Roma make up the first batch of gypsies sent home under a so-called voluntary policy of repatriation.

The repatriations come after French President Nicolas Sarkozy last month vowed action against Roma, Gypsy and traveller communities.
