TOULOUSE - A fire broke out Tuesday at a library and about a dozen cars were burned in the southern French city of Toulouse, police said, as officers in Paris braced for a third night of youth riots.

The fire in the library in the Reynerie neighbourhood, whose cause was unknown, was rapidly put out by police.

A police unit was deployed to the area and nearby Bagatelle, where cars were set on fire earlier in the evening, and appeared to restore order.

Meanwhile, in a suburb to the north of Paris, hundreds of police were deployed, braced for a possible third night of violence sparked by the deaths of two teenagers in a motorbike collision with a police car Sunday.

Some 120 police were injured in the clashes, the worst eruption of urban violence since the riots of 2005.
