PARIS - There will be a progressive return to normal on the French train system over the next three days, the French rail operator SNCF said Thursday, signalling an end to the crippling transport strike.

TGV fast trains between Paris and the country's regions will be fully operational Friday, and there will be a general return to regular service over the weekend, it said.

The RATP metro operator in Paris said 70 percent of trains will run Friday and 75 percent of buses.

Many regional workers' assemblies have voted to go back to work, following the opening of conciliation talks on the disputed issue of pension reform.
