Renault reports 4.6 percent slide in sales

PARIS, March 14, 2007 (AFP) - French automaker Renault on Wednesday reported a 4.6 percent slide in worldwide sales in February compared with the same month last year.

PARIS, March 14, 2007 (AFP) - French automaker Renault on Wednesday reported a 4.6 percent slide in worldwide sales in February compared with the same month last year.

It said sales were down 9.4 percent in Europe and 8.0 percent elsewhere.

The company said sales of automobiles in the Renault group fell to 171,064 in February while sales of utility vehicles edged up 3.4 percent to 31,865 compared with February 2006.

A statement from the automaker said the Fenruary performance was consistent with company projections, adding that "the first half of 2007 will see lower results for Renault ahead of the launch of new models."

Renault sales in the first two months of 2006 were down 2.8 percent from the same period of 2006.
