Renault reports 2010 sales at record 2.6 million

French automaker Renault reported on Monday that global sales hit a record 2.6 million vehciles in 2010, up 14.0 percent from the total in 2009, with sales in emerging markets particularly strong.

The company said it had a market share of 3.7 percent in the global auto sector, which had grown by 11.8 percent in the year.

Renault said sales were up 7.4 percent in the European market, and up 26 percent outside Europe.

Last week another French automaker, PSA Peugeot Citroen, said it had sold a record 3.6 million vehicles, citing a better-than-expected economic climate.
